Any suggestions for which winch (fitted) from whom? Favourite seems to be Warn Magnum from ARB (their "Entry Level" which is a bit of a worrying term [like an entry level Porsche being a 924]). Bit scared of TigerzII ("cheap" Chinese) which is only $300 or so less. _________________ David J England |

David, i understand your dilemna - i'm in the same process at the moment.
I guess it depends upon how much use you think it will get eh!
I have read three winch reports now that the tigerz 2 was included in and no issues or faults were highlighted. On a value for money basis they're hard to beat.
Warranty appears to be best in class also.
As in many other areas of industry, the upper echelon of the Chinese stuff is now becoming on par to many 'best' brands.
I don't know if this is the case or not here but i'm keen to find out.
cheers,

4WD Action last year conducted an exhaustive winch test. I concluded from the test that the Premier Winch would be the one I would go for. Amp draw was ok but quite importantly you could use rope on it rather than wire and it was best in class for water resistance.
More recently the Tigerz11 has proved quite competent. Patrolapart in Lilydale are a distributor and friends of LROCV.

Avenger winches are distributed through Opposite Lock, see Scott in Mitcham. Haven't read much on them though.

Not sure how expensive the Tigerz are, but I have seen the T-Max ones with rope for a little bit over $1000. I have read the tests on them some time back, but can't remember how good they were.

Hello Peter
Probably not freudian as I believe Derek's current shrink is more Jung than Freud.
Derek
They would have to be able to drive to the same section of forest let alone get on to the track that I might "hyperthectically be stuck on in order to recover me with the "Toys" of which they speak.
Judging from the woosey cancellations this weekend of other trips due to alleged slight showers, from even my until lately esteemed colleague Mr. Murray the younger (now the lesser),
it seems unlikely that many, even armed with the best of gear would be in a position to help me.
I will be unable to defend myself from any further feeble remarks as I leave tonight on what others are obviously to scared to contemplate - A 4wd Trip.
See you in a week or two if I have to walk out.
Colin. |

I'd still be wary of Chinese anything. Too hot and cold for my liking. I picked up a 2nd warn hi mount for $700, modified the bar and bob's your uncle _________________ There are fourbies, and then there are DEFENDERS |

David,
From reviews and tests that I've read the Premier winch is the one I would go for, but I personally think it all comes down to money and how often you will use it. If you're only going away and therefore going to use it every now and then (assuming you get stuck) then I don't see the value in spending the amount of money on the "better" winches available (Warn, Premier etc), the cheaper Tigerz etc should be fine. If you are planning on going away and therefore possibly using it alot then I would always prefer the better more renownd brands. My opinion only. Good luck.
Cheers

SG Leslie and sons in Heidelberg have a good name. They put a breather on mine and braced the drum. To date I've had no probs.
