G'day to all the Discovery owners out there. My Dad has been looking to get a new car and through his decision making and coming to trials the other week he is interested in a TD5 disco.
I don't know if there is anyone out there who can have a chat with him, show off their TD5 disco or let him have a drive.
He's undecided or auto or manual as yet and wants something that is still car like but with a diesel motor for towing not too old and with some creature comforts for travelling long distance in.
If anyone is available to help just let me know or PM me, cheers. Dad is located in Mulgrave. _________________ 2000 Td5 Defender 110 X-treme

Hi Alex,
I chatted with your Dad at the Trials Day. Looks like I might have contributed to his leaning towards the TD5
I'm happy for him to have a drive of my automatic TD5, and to talk some more. The only area I wouldn't try to advise him on is towing with the automatic. I have only ever towed one heavy load; the rest have been 6x4 size loads.
I'm in Wantirna, and home for the weekend (at last!) PM me so we can arrange a time.
Cheers, _________________ David M

Having had both TD5 Disco man and auto, the auto is much nicer.
And if you are super lucky you might find one with ACE. _________________ Adam S

Alex, i note that you said one of the criteria was that it was 'car like'. I have owned my 00 D2 V8 now for over six years and i use it daily doing up to 2000kms / wk in it from time to time. It also has some lay off periods and in all has just clocked 180,000. I love taking it bush with the family and simply finding hills to climb. I love it more every year! It is the most car like 4WD i have ever been in - simple as that. I took a nice new D3 TDV6 for a quick dash up to Sydney recently and allthough a ripper thing and i'd have one in a heartbeat - the D2 was more to my liking i must admit. I have increased the output considerably but the good chassis dynamics are the key and every D2 has it i reckon. The V8 is more car like than the Td5 and on gas cheaper to run but you roll the dice with reliability - its a trade off either way i feel. The TD5 would be far better off road and of course more fuel volume frugal off road but if you drive it predominantly on road like i do - well its a V8 for my needs.
I loved my rangie before this one but the D2 has ACE and it is simply an awesome piece of technology. With its uprated engine it simply drives and sounds like a 2 1/2 tonne sports car - i never tire of it.
Hope your dad finds a good one and more importantly finds someone good to look after it for him,
cheers,
Deano. _________________ D2 - modified V8, CDL, Hema 5, UHF, tyre dog, STT's, extractors, cargo barrier, snorkel, TJM bar + 12000lb rope winch, recovery pts f&r, Spotties. Coil conv. with 2" lift - steel rear bar - drawers.

Have you got spare axles for it?
On second thoughts, I don't want to get your hopes up - no. _________________ David M
